Elon Musk, the founder of SpaceX and CEO of Tesla, just announced that if a COVID vaccine were to become available he and his family would not be getting it.

Kara Swisher, the host of a New York Times opinion section podcast, asked the billionaire whether or not he and his family would be getting the COVID-19 vaccine when it’s ready.

Musk responded, “No, I’m not at risk for COVID. Nor are my kids.”

Musk and the host also talked about the lockdowns they had been put in place over the summer to help prevent the spread of the virus.

“It has diminished my faith in humanity, the whole thing… the irrationality of people in general.” He said he was opposed to them because they did not “serve the greater good.”

“Essentially, the right thing to do would be to not have done a lockdown for the whole country but to have, I think, anyone who’s at risk should be quarantined until the storm passes,” Musk explained. “I mean, this is a hot button issue where rationality takes a back seat. In the grand scheme of things what we have is something with a very low mortality rate and high contagion.”

Swisher pointed out that Musk’s views on COVID-19 opposed his humanitarian work.

Musk grimly replied, “Everyone dies.”

Whether you agree with Elon Musk or not it’s refreshing to see someone challenging conformity. There are mass numbers of people who agree with him but don’t have the influence that this tech giant has.
