A radio talk show based out of Denver, Colorado has been canceled after a horrible comment made by one of the cohosts on air. He said that he hoped “a nice school shooting’ would interrupt the news coverage of “the never-ending impeachment of Donald Trump.”
Cohost of the radio talk show Chuck & Julie, Chuck Bonniwell made the comments about 22 minutes into the show on Tuesday afternoon drawing major backlash from families of some of the Colorado shooting victims.
According to the Colorado Times Recorder, Bonniwell said, “All right, Chuck Bonniwell, Julie Hayden here, a little after 1:30, talking about the never-ending impeachment of Donald Trump. You know, you wish for a nice school shooting.”
His wife and cohost quickly jumped in saying, “Don’t even — don’t even say that. No, don’t even say that. Don’t call us. Chuck didn’t say that.”
Bonniwell quickly backtracked and said: “which no one would be hurt.” But the damage had already been done. The station 710 KNUS posted a statement on Twitter Wednesday evening that the program had been canceled.
“Given the history of school violence that has plagued our community, 710 KNUS confirms that an inappropriate comment was made on the Chuck & Julie show by co-host Chuck Bonniwell. A programming decision was made to end the program immediately,” the statement read.
Bonniwell quickly issued an apology on Twitter, saying the comment was meant only as a joke. The tweet read, “I made an inappropriate comment meant as a joke. I’m sorry it was not received that way.” The comment has since been deleted.
Mother, Sandy Phillips, who lost her daughter Jessi in the Aurora shooting called him out on Twitter saying that Bonniwell should be fired.
Phillips said, “This guy should be fired. Total ignorance. Shootings hurt us all…just ask witnesses and first responders. You don’t have to be shot to be wounded.”
It is unbelievable that a radio host would suggest such a horrible act just to distract from the impeachment.
