During a White House news conference reporter asked President Trump, “ Win, lose or draw in this election, will you commit here today for a peaceful transfer of power after the election?”
“We’re going to have to see what happens,” Trump responded. “You know that I’ve been complaining very strongly about the ballots, and the ballots are a disaster.”
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell appeared for an exclusive interview on “Fox News @ Night” to say that if President Trump lost the November election to Joe Biden there would be ‘an orderly transfer of power” in January just as there has been “every four years since Washington was elected for a second term in 1792.”
McConnell reiterated his statement in a Twitter post that said, “The winner of the November 3rd election will be inaugurated on January 20th. There will be an orderly transition just as there has been every four years since 1792.”
Later in the show, McConnell responded to the Democrats’ criticism of his vow to fill the Supreme Court vacancy left by Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg after her death last Friday telling host Shannon Bream, “We can’t pick and choose when big decisions are foisted upon us by things that we didn’t anticipate, like the untimely death of Justice Ginsburg, who, by the way, had a spectacular career and was aninspiration to millions of Americans.”
“But the election is no reason to dodge our responsibility and not go fowardwith a well-qualified nominee, which I anticipate we’re going to get Saturday afternoon,” McConnell added.
President Trump has narrowed down his list to five people and promised to announce his pick for the Supreme Court nominee on Saturday, he added it would definitely be a woman.
The president is well within his rights to choose a nominee. Just because the election is weeks away doesn’t mean his power as president is somehow less than the first day he stepped into the White House.
