The body of an unknown, adult man has been found encased in concrete in the basement of an apartment. Authorities investigating a possible killing made the grisly discovery Friday in a quiet neighborhood in Denver, Colorado. The Adams County Sheriff’s Office obtained a search warrant for the apartment after receiving a tip regarding a possible shooting that took place earlier this month.

“A search of the residence and multiple interviews have confirmed that a shooting and homicide occurred inside the apartment,” the sheriff’s office said.

That Thursday afternoon, a SWAT team swarmed the apartment and arrested 38-year-old Russell Montoya Jr.

The very next day, while Adams County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene and Laboratory Team were investigating the scene of the alleged crime, the body of an adult, male victim was discovered “encased” in concrete in the basement.

According to KDVR, a “very large” body bad was seen being removed from the apartment by people in Hazmat suits on Friday.

“ACSO personnel will work in conjunction with members of the Coroner’s Office to remove the decedent from residence,” the sheriff’s office said.

The sheriff’s office says the investigation is ongoing. Montoya is facing a first-degree murder charge as well as tampering with physical evidence. As the investigation continues he could have additional charges.

“We are receiving many calls from media on the homicide. We are being very careful on how we are releasing information,” the sheriff’s office tweeted. “This case is unique and we have a tremendous responsibility to maintain case integrity. Please be patient with us. Thank you for understanding.”

The neighbors complained about a lot of activity coming from the apartment but never suspected anything like this. It just goes to show that you never know what kind of person is living next door to you.
