President Trump took time this weekend to lay out what he wants to see done to so-called “sanctuary cities”, calling for their funding from the fed to be put on pause for disobeying federal immigration laws.
“I’m calling on Congress to stop funding sanctuary cities so we can save American lives. The funding bill should not give precious and massive taxpayer grants to cities aiding and abetting criminals,” Trump said at the rally for Republican congressional candidate Rick Saccone. “It’s what they do.”

The Department of Justice recently filed a lawsuit against the state of California in response to how they’re handling the laws put in place.
“At a time of unprecedented political turmoil, Jeff Sessions has come to California to further divide and polarize America. Jeff, these political stunts may be the norm in Washington, but they don’t work here. SAD!!!” Gov. Jerry Brown told his Twitter followers shortly after the lawsuit was filed.
“It’s important, given these rumors that are out there, to let people know – more specifically today, employers – that if they voluntarily start giving up information about their employees or access to their employees in ways that contradict our new California laws, they subject themselves to actions by my office,” California Attorney General Xavier Becerra said at the time. “We will prosecute those who violate the law.”
“Our track record so far when it comes to any dispute with the federal government has been pretty good on this count,” Becerra said.
“The provisions of state law at issue have the purpose and effect of making it more difficult for federal immigration officers to carry out their responsibilities in California,” a senior Justice Department lawyers wrote. “The Supremacy Clause does not allow California to obstruct the United States’ ability to enforce laws that Congress has enacted or to take actions entrusted to it by the Constitution.”
