If there was ever any doubt that Donald Trump was going to remain a major player in US politics, it has now been fully extinguished.
Trump, who is almost certainly going to run again in 2024, has been steadily working his way back into the conversation of late, despite having not yet been allowed back on Twitter – his favorite platform for reaching the masses en masse.
This week, as he continues to insist that the 2020 election was stolen from him, Trump has now issued a threat regarding the next two contests.
Former President Donald Trump appeared to suggest on Wednesday that Republican voters would boycott future elections unless the alleged voter fraud of the 2020 election is resolved.
“If we don’t solve the Presidential Election Fraud of 2020 (which we have thoroughly and conclusively documented), Republicans will not be voting ’22 or ’24,” he said. “It is the single most important thing for Republicans to do.”
And there is some precedent for this sort of protest:
Leading up to the Georgia senate election earlier this year, President Trump strongly pushed the voter fraud angle, which possibly led to Republicans staying home on election day, contributing to Sen. Raphael Warnock’s (D-GA) and Sen. Jon Ossoff’s (D-GA) victories.
Trump has continued to exert his authority over the GOP in recent months, but this is perhaps his most direct attack yet, and could be a bellwether test for his potential presidential bid in 2024.
