Some dogs like to perch and other dogs like to look out on their surroundings. Golden retriever Huckleberry likes to do both, so much so that he regularly sits on the roof of his family’s home to take in the view.
Huckleberry likes the vista atop the house in Austin, Texas so much that his activity often catches the attention of passersby, who are notably curious and concerned for his safety.
As a result, Huckleyberry’s mom answers the knocking on her door several times a week. So she posted a sign to let the worried neighbors know about the dog’s roof-climbing hobby.
Huck’s owner even wrote a ‘Don’t Be Alarmed’ in the sign. It says that they’re perfectly aware of the strange roundabouts of their dog and that they make sure the canine is safe at all times.
“We never leave him in the backyard without someone being at home. He will not jump off unless you entice him with food or a ball!,” reads the note. The owner adds: “We appreciate your concern but please do not knock on our door… We know he’s up there! But please feel free to take pictures of him and share with the world!”
The guy even created a special hashtag to celebrate the antics of his incredible doggie – ‘#hucktheroofdog’. Whatever Huck is doing up there, watching the world go by or contemplating his life, let’s admit that it’s pretty impressive!
Sharing a photo of Huckleberry and the sign on Reddit, the post got plenty of attention from netizens eager to learn more about what having a roof dog is actually like.
When asked whether she can hear Huckleberry clambering about on her roof, the woman replied:
“Yes, it’s annoying, especially with an infant who’s trying to nap. The worst is when someone starts waving at him and he bolts to the front of the house – I’m surprised all my shingles are still intact.”
The family has recently adopted another Golden Retriever who they’ve named Bluebell and if Huckleberry’s Instagram (opens in new tab) account is anything to go by, it looks like we have another roof dog in the making.
