The Most Magical Place On Earth Has Turned Into A Living Nightmare

What was once known as the happiest place on earth has turned into a nightmare for thousands of its employees. Walt Disney World is taking a hard blow to the chin as it is about to furlough 43,000 workers as it remains closed due to the coronavirus.

Orlando Florida’s Magic Kingdom, which has been shut down since March 16th, has come to an agreement with its workers’ unions and will make the necessary layoffs effective April 19, according to Forbes. Most of the employees included in the layoff are security guards and other workers involved in operating the facilities.

According to those in charge, the laid-off workers will keep all of their health benefits for up to a year and Disney has agreed to pay for any coronavirus testing for all employees who need it.

Of course, it is still unclear when Disney will reopen its gates at any of the parks around the world, or when the world will reopen for that matter. The massive 40-square mile park will now only be staffed by 200 essential duty employees.

Forbes says Disney World is the largest single-site employer in the entire country. These massive layoffs are expected to have a domino effect on the economy of Central Florida where many other businesses depend on Disney being open to stay in business.

The “Most Magical Place on Earth” has become a distant fairy tale.
