She Killed Her Child With A Vegan Diet, And She Has Just Learned Her Fate…

This only proves that a Vegan diet is not as always healthy as advertised, in fact, it can be as fatal as our featured story for today.

The vegan Florida mother was convicted of murder in the starvation death of her 18-month-old son after feeding him only raw fruits and vegetables.

Sheila O’Leary, 38, received a life sentence for the death of her “extremely malnourished” son Ezra O’Leary on Monday. She showed little emotion at the hearing and declined to speak prior to the judge handing down her sentence.

O’Leary was convicted in June on a series of charges including first-degree murder, aggravated manslaughter, aggravated child abuse, child abuse, and two counts of child neglect. Her trial had been postponed four times, according to reports.

“This afternoon, Sheila O’Leary was adjudicated guilty and sentenced to life in prison for First Degree Murder. She was also sentenced to 30 years in prison for Aggravated Child Abuse and 30 years in prison for Aggravated Manslaughter of a Child,” said a press release from the Office of the State Attorney for the 20th Judicial Circuit of Florida. “She was sentenced to 5 years in prison on two counts of Child Neglect and one count of Child Abuse.”

The prosecution also noted that O’Leary has been ordered not to contact her kids and that her sentences will run concurrently.

O’Leary’s husband, Ryan Patrick O’Leary, is currently in custody pending his trial on the same charges.

The couple lived on a strict vegan diet consisting purely of raw fruits, vegetables, and breast milk, according to a probable cause statement previously obtained by Oxygen.com. The couple ate “nothing” that had been “cooked” and primarily consumed mangoes, rambutans (a tropical fruit similar to a lychee), bananas, and avocados.

Sheila O’Leary called 911 in September when she noticed her son was not breathing and felt cold, according to a police report. She tried to resuscitate the baby, but he was dead when paramedics arrived.

The toddler weighed only 17 pounds at the time of his death, according to the case’s court documents. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, a child that age in the 50th percentile for weight would normally weigh 26 pounds.
