It is a real shame when we see people claiming to be a victim of a crime only to find out they faked the whole thing for attention.
A prime example of this is actor Jussie Smollett, who claimed he was a victim of racism after he was attacked by two men who used racial slurs and assaulted him. It was later discovered that Jussie hired these men and set the whole thing up himself.
Now, this form of deceit has made its way into the political world with Johnathon Lopez, a recent candidate for the Board of Commissioners in Umatilla County, Oregon. It comes to no surprise that he is a Democrat.
Lopez decided it would help his career if he were the victim of the current racial tensions. The would-be commissioner wrote a letter to himself and filled it with racial slurs and threats to his family.
According to a local news radio station, Lopez responded to the letter in a Facebook post that has since been removed.
The post read, “We now more than ever must address these issues that are destroying and distancing us from unification. We must be mature and adults about things and address them properly at a table or meeting in which we can come to an agreement or mutual understanding.”
Lopez continues, “I hold no resentment for whoever wrote this; I’m just simply heartbroken for the lack of knowledge, education, and respect missing. I pray for you and wish you prosperity in your life. God bless us all.”
So in an attempt to appear magnanimous and demonstrate his version of unity he fabricates lies to fit his narrative.
Lopez eventually confessed to having made up the whole thing and quickly tried to backtrack by saying he “never meant to mislead” the public.
His halfhearted apology isn’t enough to get him out of hot water, however, because his case will be forwarded to the District Attorney’s office.
These idiots who think its a good idea to fake crimes like this are a real problem that needs to be addressed. The only thing he accomplished was wasting the time of those who could have been focusing on the real issues out there.
