With only a week left until Election Day, we’re down to the wire, and it’s anyone’s guess who will come out on top. Kamala Harris and Donald Trump are locked in a tight race with no clear lead. At this point, even the smallest developments could shift the outcome, and this week, Harris was hit with some unwelcome headlines when a past girlfriend of her husband, Doug Emhoff, accused him of slapping her back in 2012.
Logic might suggest Harris would want to keep Emhoff out of the spotlight while these allegations are fresh. But instead, he’s out campaigning, carrying on as though no clouds were looming over him. It must be nice to have the mainstream media conveniently gloss over these accusations!
On Monday, Emhoff took to the stage in Pennsylvania, a swing state crucial to this race. In his speech, he didn’t hold back on Trump, making some highly charged claims that seemed to come out of thin air. According to Breitbart, Emhoff, relying on a Teleprompter, accused Trump of holding “an unhinged and just un-American view of our fellow Americans.” He went on to allege that Trump’s rally in Madison Square Garden was rife with “antisemitic and racist speeches.” Curiously, he provided no specifics and didn’t quote any examples. In reality, there were no such speeches—just a few jokes from a comedian. Emhoff even warned that Trump would “praise Nazis behind closed doors” without a shred of evidence to back up his claims.
In the final days of this race, the Democrats’ desperation is on full display. Lacking solid ground to stand on, they’ve resorted to baseless accusations, painting Trump as a Nazi sympathizer with no proof whatsoever. It’s almost as if they assume their voters will buy anything, no matter how far-fetched. But Americans, by and large, aren’t as easily fooled as they might think.
This race could ultimately be decided by independent voters, and they’ve had enough of baseless attacks on Trump. Alleging that Trump secretly admires Nazis is likely to backfire, possibly even swaying independent votes his way. And with allegations hanging over Emhoff’s head, he’s in no position to be pointing fingers. Just last week, his ex-girlfriend anonymously claimed that he slapped her back in 2012, a story that friends corroborated as credible.
Emhoff denies the incident, but if he were a Republican, we all know the media wouldn’t let this story die. But since he’s a Democrat, it’s mostly fallen on deaf ears. With these allegations out there, Emhoff’s campaign efforts might be doing Harris more harm than good. Here’s hoping he keeps it up and that this misstep is enough to tip the scales in Trump’s favor!
