Democrats Are Making Some Ominous Threats If Trump Picks Supreme Court Replacement

President Trump is working toward nominating a candidate to fill the empty seat of Supreme Court Justice following the death of Ruth Bader Ginsburg on Friday.

Democrats are outraged and have threatened to take extreme measures and pack the Supreme Court if they take control of the White House and the Senate.

Rep. Joe Kennedy III, D-Mass, said in a Twitter post, “If he holds a vote in 2020, we pack the court in 2021. It’s that simple.”

“Mitch McConnell set the precedent,” tweeted Sen. Ed Markey, D-Mass, referring to the Senate Majority Leader’s vow to appoint a Trump nominee to the position. “No Supreme Court vacancies filled in an election year. If he violates it, when Democrats control the Senate in the next Congress, we must abolish the filibuster and expand the Supreme Court.”

This isnt the first time Democrats have threatened “packing” the court with extra justices. There was an unsuccessful attempt in 1937 by President Franklin D. Roosevelt to push through parts of his New Deal that were marked as unconstitutional by the high court.

Jerry Naddler wrote on Twitter, “If Sen. McConnell and @SenateGOP were to force through a nominee during the lame-duck session — before a new Senate and President can take office — then the incoming Senate should immediately move to expand the Supreme Court.”

“Filling the SCOTUS vacancy during a lame-duck session, after the American people have voted for new leadership, is undemocratic and a clear violation of the public trust in elected officials,” he added. “Congress would have to act and expanding the court would be the right place to start.”

There is now word yet whether Demcratic presidential nominee Joe Biden will back up these threats. However, he did say in 2019 that he was not prepared to pack the court saying, “we”ll live to rue that day.”
