It was bound to happen, wasn’t it? Some smarmy politician who touted each and every COVID-19 precaution as the law was going to get caught in a position where there was a pronounced display of lawlessness to be had.
This may just be a feature of US politics, in which we just assume that everyone who we elect is somehow crooked or malfeasant. It’s a given, really.
That is perhaps why it isn’t all that surprising to hear that the governor of Michigan just got caught in a quite precarious paradox.
Michigan. Gov. Gretchen Whitmer (D) apologized after Breitbart News busted her Sunday for violating her own coronavirus orders at an East Lansing bar.
Breitbart News obtained a photo showing Whitmer and her appointed chief operations officer, Tricia Foster, among a group of 13 people at the Landshark, a dive bar in the college town, on Saturday:
Whitmer’s office refused to acknowledge it to Breitbart News, but released a statement to Eric Lloyd of 9 & 10 News […]
Her apology was easily recognizable as a boilerplate sort of statement.
“Yesterday, I went with friends to a local restaurant. As more people arrived, the tables were pushed together,” Whitmer admitted.
“Because we were all vaccinated, we didn’t stop to think about it,” she claimed.
“In retrospect, I should have thought about it. I am human. I made a mistake, and I apologize,” the governor said.
Whitmer was one of the first elected officials to receive significant pushback from her constituents in regard to the state’s COVID-19 precautions, with a radical sect of anti-Gretchen forces having planned to blow up a bride across town in an effort to more easily kidnap, and possibly execute Governor Whitmer.
