The media has identified a pregnant woman reportedly murdered by the Taliban as Banu Negar. Local news in Afghanistan stated that the woman, an Afghan police officer, was murdered in front of her children and husband Saturday in her home in Firozkoh. Negar was eight months pregnant when she was brutally executed.
Three sources told the BBC that three Taliban gunmen entered Negar’s home and searched it before tying members of the family up.
“Relatives supplied graphic images showing blood spattered on a wall in the corner of a room and a body, the face heavily disfigured,” according to the BBC.
The Taliban denied any involvement in Negar’s death and told the BBC that they looking into her murder:
“We are aware of the incident and I am confirming that the Taliban have not killed her, our investigation is ongoing,” Taliban spokesman Zabiullah Mujahid said.
News of her murder came as concerns for the lives of Americans trapped by the Taliban are growing. Especially now that the Taliban is holding six airplanes carrying Americans and Afghan refugees “hostage” at an airport in Afghanistan, according to Rep. Michael McCaul.
McCaul, the ranking Republican on the House Foreign Affairs Committee, said on “Fox News Sunday” that the flights have been cleared by the US State Department to depart but “the Taliban will not let them leave the airport.”
“In fact, we have six airplanes at Mazar-i-Sharif airport, six airplanes, with American citizens on them as I speak, also with these interpreters, and the Taliban is holding them hostage for demands right now,” the Texas congressman told host Chris Wallace.
