From the very onset of the coronavirus pandemic, there has been a constant murmur just under the surface of society that was equal parts worried and defiant, who believed that this was going to turn out to be a terrible situation for our freedom.
There were fears of a massive government overreach, or worse, that perhaps this was all part of some secret agenda to “reset” the way in which the world operates.
In either case, the theories being bandied about were enough to put a great many Americans on edge about mask laws and vaccine mandates – the latter of which seems to be a growing phenomenon.
California will become the first state in the nation to require all teachers and staff in K-12 public and private schools to get vaccinated or undergo weekly COVID-19 testing, Gov. Gavin Newsom announced Wednesday.
The statewide vaccine mandate comes as schools return from summer break amid growing concerns of the highly contagious delta variant.
The new policy will affect the state’s 320,000 public school teachers, more than 250,000 support staff — from cafeteria employees to cleaners — and at least 80,000 private school employees, according to the California Department of Education and labor unions. It will also apply to school volunteers.
Newsom announced the new policy at a San Francisco Bay Area school that has already reopened after summer break. Many California schools are back in session, with others starting in the coming weeks.
The move will almost certainly stir up controversy once again, as a large number of Americans continue to refuse to receive a coronavirus vaccine, citing their own bodily sovereignty in their denial.
