Americans are growing impatient waiting for the coronavirus pandemic to be over, and this isn’t some restlessness that just exists for the sake of existence. No, we were instilled with this need for speed back in the first quarter of 2020 when we were all waiting to see whether or not the “two-week lockdown” was actually going to “flatten the curve”.

Well here we are over one year later and it didn’t, and what ensued was a 14 month battle of wits and will and washing your hands.

Now, in the twilight of this once-in-a-lifetime pandemic, there is some reticence to reopen too quickly, oftentimes in states where Democrats seem to hold power. Reading between the lines, it seems very much that the Biden administration would like to hold off until the July 4th holiday, sadly, for purely aesthetic reasons.

But Florida isn’t falling for it.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis signed an executive order Monday that immediately suspends all outstanding local Covid-19 emergency orders and related public health restrictions.

“The fact is, we are no longer in a state of emergency,” DeSantis said during a news conference. He acknowledged that Florida was still not done with its fight against the coronavirus but reiterated the nation’s decline in Covid-19 cases and deaths.

“I think that’s the evidence-based thing to do,” DeSantis said, adding that asking vaccinated individuals to continue to wear masks would undermine confidence in the coronavirus vaccines.

Florida now joins Texas and a handful of other states in coronavirus liberation, and not a moment too soon given The Sunshine State’s dependence on tourism revenue.
