Biden took a massive loss and has been forced to abandon one of his border executive orders.
On January 20th, Biden signed several executive actions, one of them was no longer diverting taxpayer dollars to construct the southern border wall.
“Like every nation, the United States has a right and a duty to secure its borders and protect its people against threats,” he wrote. “But building a massive wall that spans the entire southern border is not a serious policy solution. It is a waste of money that diverts attention from genuine threats to our homeland security.”
A couple of months later forty Republican Senators launched an investigation asking the Government Accountability Office (GAO) to step in citing Biden’s executive order infringes on Congress’s power of the purse.
“An appropriations act is a law like any other; therefore, the president must take care to ensure that appropriations are prudently obligated in the manner they were provided by Congress,” lawmakers wrote in a letter spearheaded by Sen. Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.).
Breitbart News reported that Biden’s “pause” was costing US taxpayers millions of dollars a day.
From Breitbart:
According to the source, the expenditures are required for materials orders placed before the pause and expenses for the cost of equipment sitting idle. When the issuance of a stop-work order causes a contractor to idle equipment, they are entitled to be compensated for rental expenses or costs of ownership.
Under the pressure of Republicans and a pending investigation, the Biden Administration announced on April 6th, that they will resume building the border and fill in the gaps left by the pause.
