New Texas Abortion Law Sends A Ripple Effect Of Consequences Across The Country

A recent Supreme Court ruling regarding a Texas abortion law has many liberal around the nation positively triggered, and looking for ways to somehow “resist” the Lone Star State…much in the same way that they attempted to resist Donald Trump’s presidency.

And, in some cases, it’s the same folks doing both bits of resisting.

For example, there’s Portland, Oregon, where months of nightly protests have gone largely unchecked by police, with many suggesting that Mayor Ted Wheeler had asked law enforcement to take it easy on rioters.

These Antifa-inspired events, and the tepid response by local leaders, belies Portland’s unbelievably liberal stance.

Now, the city that can’t even keep its people safe from constant rioting seems to think that they are going to be able to injure Texas over the aforementioned abortion law.

The Portland, Ore., City Council is planning to vote Wednesday on a proposal to ban doing business with the state of Texas following the controversial new abortion restrictions enacted in the Lone Star State.

In a statement last week, Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler (D) said the city council will vote whether to ban trading goods and services with Texas and bar state employee business travel as well, citing the new law that bans abortions after a fetal heartbeat is detected and allows private citizens to sue anyone they believe has helped a woman violate the limits.

“This law does not demonstrate concern for the health, safety, and well-being of those who may become pregnant. This law does not recognize or show respect for the human rights of those who may become pregnant,” Wheeler said in the statement. “This law rewards private individuals for exercising surveillance and control over others’ bodies. It violates the separation of church and state. And, it will force people to carry pregnancies against their will.”

Of course, Wheeler’s reputation has been largely in tatters of late, which could have some critics writing his anti-Texas drivel off wholesale.
