Atlanta Hawks sportscaster Bob Rathbun was hospitalized after losing consciousness on-Air.

Video of the incident shows Rathbun, 68, talking with analyst and NBA Hall of Famer Dominique Wilkins before suddenly seizing up, slumping back in his seat, and dropping his papers and microphone. The other announcer was at first unaware until the camera cut away. The incident occurred just before the game between the Oklahoma City Thunder and the Atlanta Hawks.

The scary episode was attributed to dehydration (video below).

Medical officials rushed to his side as cameras panned away. He was then taken to Emory Midtown hospital in Atlanta where he was treated for dehydration.

Rathbun has been with Atlanta Hawks for almost 4x as long as the current owner has been with the team. Rathbun has been the play-by-play announcer for Atlanta Hawks games since 1996. He is beloved by the fans and the organization.

Bally Sports released another statement providing an update on Rathbun’s condition on Tuesday.

“[Rathbun] stayed in Emory Midtown Hospital in Atlanta overnight for observation and further tests,” the statement said. “As of this morning, all tests were very favorable and Bob is in great spirits.

“Upon completion of remaining tests, Bob plans to be released from the hospital later today. Bob’s health is of the utmost concern to Bally Sports and the Atlanta Hawks and he will return to the broadcast booth only after he is well rested and fully recovered.”

Fellow Bally Sports sportscaster Kelly Crull thanked fans for their concern and support for Rathbun, assuring everyone that he was being taken care of.

“For those watching Hawks tonight, thank you for your grace & keep prayers coming. Our partner Bob Rathbun briefly lost consciousness on the court. Emergency medical professionals quickly treated him for dehydration-he is stable, responsive & @ Emory Midtown for further evaluation,” she tweeted.

The Hawks went on to lose the game to the Oklahoma City Thunder 121-114.

The outpouring of love for Bob Rathbun on social media is immense. If it wasn’t obvious before it’s clear now just how much of an impact he’s had on his colleagues and field of work.
