It’s safe to say that Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell is on America’s bad side right now. That’s because he will not budge on objecting to giving the people a stimulus check in the form of a $2,000 direct payment.
There is just one man standing up against President Trump, the entire Democratic Party, and a large portion of House and Senate Republicans who are all in favor of it. Unfortunately, McConnell holds all the power at this point.
This president isn’t happy about the Senator’s defiance and sent out a stern warning to anyone in the GOP who would oppose this stimulus.
President Donald Trump warned Republicans from blocking bigger direct checks to Americans suffering from the coronavirus pandemic Tuesday afternoon.
“Unless Republicans have a death wish, and it is also the right thing to do, they must approve the $2000 payments ASAP,” Trump wrote on Twitter.
Trump reacted just hours after Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) blocked an attempt by Democrats to unanimously approve a House-passed bill to increase direct payments in the coronavirus relief package to $2,000 from $600.
“$600 IS NOT ENOUGH!” Trump wrote.
Trump also urged the Senate to eliminate the Sec. 230 protections in the Communications Decency Act for large tech companies.
“Don’t let Big Tech steal our Country, and don’t let the Democrats steal the Presidential Election,” he wrote. “Get tough!”
In fact, so many people are in favor of the larger checks that Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders even threatened to filibuster another piece of legislation unless a vote occurs on the $2,000 stimulus checks, putting him in the unusual position of being on Trump’s side.
