On Thursday, House Republicans announced that Hunter Biden is set to undergo a deposition next month, marking a resolution to the standoff in the impeachment inquiry involving his father, President Joe Biden. Oversight Chairman James Comer (R-KY) and Judiciary Chairman Jim Jordan (R-OH) revealed the news in a concise statement, outlining plans for interviews with other witnesses.

In their brief statement, Comer and Jordan stated, “Hunter Biden will appear before our committees for a deposition on February 28, 2024. His deposition will follow interviews with various Biden family members and associates. We anticipate Hunter Biden’s testimony.”

This announcement came after Hunter Biden’s attorney, Abbe Lowell, responded to the chairmen’s resolutions to hold his client in contempt of Congress for defying subpoenas issued in November. Lowell communicated that Hunter Biden would comply with a “proper subpoena” following the House’s formal authorization of the impeachment inquiry the previous month.

While asserting the validity of their earlier subpoenas, Comer and Jordan expressed willingness over the weekend to reissue a subpoena for Hunter Biden. As of Thursday, new subpoenas had not been issued, but a congressional source indicated that they would be sent out soon, according to The Daily Wire.

The publication reached out to Lowell for comment, and the report highlighted Hunter Biden’s recent appearances on Capitol Hill. He attended on the day of his initially scheduled deposition in December and made a second appearance this month as lawmakers deliberated contempt resolutions. Hunter Biden insisted on appearing in an open setting, such as a public hearing, to address “legitimate” questions while preventing the distortion of his testimony by members.
