A Las Vegas woman is accused of murdering her own mother reportedly with shards of broken glass after telling police during a prior arrest in late August that they were only detaining her because she is “good-looking.”
Hend Bustami, 28, of Las Vegas, called the police around 2:30 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 26, and calmly described how she killed her mother, Afaf Hussanen, 61.
Bustami, who rose to fame in August when she accused officers of arresting her for looking too pretty while arrested for theft, is now charged with her mother’s brutal death.
The newly discovered audio begins with a dispatcher asking what the purpose of the call was and what kind of help the woman needed.
Bustami and Hussanen reportedly got into a fight early Wednesday morning. Bustami called the police around 2:30 a.m. Wednesday and said, “I think I killed my mommy”. After making the call, she disappeared from the home.
When police arrived at the home, officers found Hussanen‘s body, which had several stab wounds, but Bustami was gone. Investigators determined that she had left Las Vegas in a vehicle with California license plates. Later that morning, a license plate reader identified the car driving toward California on Interstate 15.
California Highway Patrol troopers found Bustami inside the vehicle, covered in blood. She allegedly told investigators that after the argument, she stabbed Hussanen several times with shards of glass.
Police were not strangers to the residence. Las Vegas police had visited the home several times in 2022, according to records obtained by 8 News Now. In just the last year, police were called to the house on 12 separate occasions for multiple incidents, including seven cases of “family disturbances.” There was also a missing person report, a suicide attempt, and other civil matters.
Bustami was arrested in August at an airport. Bustmai had another brush with the law prior to her mother’s death. She became belligerent at a Chili’s restaurant at Harry Reid International Airport in Las Vegas last summer, KTLA reported.
She allegedly left the restaurant without paying the bill and, when confronted by police, claimed she was being harassed because of her physical appearance. She appeared drunk and, according to an arrest report, allegedly said, “cops had never seen anyone as pretty as her.”
