We all know Beto O’Rourke had no chance of winning the 2020 election so it came as no surprise that he withdrew from the race for the Democratic nominee this past Friday.
“I am announcing that my service to the country will not be as a candidate or as the nominee.” -Beto O’Rourke
The former Texas Democrat Congressman drew a lot of attention for challenging Senator Ted Cruz for a Senate seat back in 2018. O’Rourke may have had loads of cash backing up his campaign but he was still unable to unseat Cruz.
Beto said in a tweet, “I am grateful to all the people who made up the heart and soul of this campaign. You were among the hundreds of thousands who made a donation, signed up to volunteer or spread the word about this campaign and our opportunity to help decide the election of our lifetime.”
In his tweet, he says, “My service to the country will not be as a candidate or as the nominee.”
O’Rourke also tweeted, “Let us continue to fearlessly champion the issues and causes that brought us together. Whether it is ending the epidemic of gun violence or dismantling structural racism or successfully confronting climate change, we will continue to organize and mobilize and act.”
President Trump was quick to respond. He tweets, “Oh no, Beto just dropped out of race for President despite him saying he was “born for this.” I don’t think so!”
O’Rourke has been quoted saying he’s “coming for our guns.” Maybe threating our constitutional rights and our right to bear arms wasn’t working out so well for him.
