Following Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s death on Friday Democrats quickly began making threats against President Trump when Senate Majority leader Mitch McConnell vowed to take actions to put a Trump nominee into the vacant Supreme Court position.
Ginsburg died at the age of 87 from complications with pancreatic cancer. She held the position of Justice of the Supreme Court for over 27 years.
Nancy Pelosi threatened impeachment and said, “We have our options. We have arrows in our quiver that I’m not about to discuss right now but the fact is we have a big challenge in our country.”
When asked if the Democrats have “the guts to do anything” to block Republicans from quickly filling the empty Supreme Court seat CNN legal analyst Jeffery Toobin called them “weak.”
Democratic Senator Chuck Schumer pressured the country to delay President Trump form picking a nominee until after the presidential election. Schumer and other Democrats have threatened that nothing is off the table when it comes to stopping Trump from filling the seat but Toobin isn’t buying their empty threats.
Toobin is skeptical that Democrats would follow through with expanding the court if needed saying, “Democrats are great about talking big but we’ll see if he has the… if he and the other Democrats have the guts to do anything.”
“If they retake control of the Senate,” he added, “will they really add the two seats on the Supreme Court?”
CNN’s Alisyn Camerota asked, “Why wouldn’t they?”
“Because they’re weak.” Toobin responded. “And they’re wimps and they’re afraid.”
Toobin explained, “There is a difference to how Democrats and Republicans go about these fights and we’ll see if Democrats learn anything from Republicans here. Yes, it’s interesting that Chuck Schumer said nothing is off the table, but that’s not a commitment to do anything.”
