The “Don’t Fauci My Florida” t-shirt really got under their skin especially Teachers Union President Randi Weingarten.
“Disgusting. Millions of Floridians are going to die for Ron DeSantis’ ignorance and he’s choosing to profit from it,” Weingarten claimed. “He doesn’t care about Floridians; he cares about furthering his own cruel agenda.”

Recently teachers’ unions have been in a war with DeSantis because they must go back to work, just like everyone else. But when Weingarten faces the facts and takes a look at the scientific data she quickly takes a few steps back.
DeSantis press secretary pointed out that Florida’s COVID death rate is lower than the national average and doesn’t tweak the numbers like Cuomo.
Florida’s COVID death rate is lower than the national average, and unlike the Governor of New York, we don’t fudge the numbers. Meanwhile, Randi Weingarten ruined the education of millions of kids by keeping them out of school for more than a year based on a conspiracy theory https://t.co/yfdLCk5Kq4

Weingarten was further humiliated when thousands of people on Twitter reminded her that even though Florida has a larger population than New York they still saw 15,000 fewer deaths than the Empire State.
Millions?
Since the start of the pandemic, only about 38,000 Floridians have died of COVID in total.
At a minimum, you are literally saying "50 times as many people in Florida will die in the future because of this."
Kinda sad that you're supposed to help kids learn math. pic.twitter.com/HeFNUWIJeC

The backlash forced Weingarten to eat her words but she still wouldn’t apologize to DeSantis.
You are all probably right… I shouldn’t have said millions.. I should have just said DeSantis was wrong to do this.. Fauci is an amazing public servant. He shoudn’t be mocked. But I shouldn’t engage in that kind of hyperbole either. My bad… https://t.co/uIGVbPxplA
