As Donald Trump continues to plot his next moves, both personally and politically, there are plenty of folks out there who’d like to see him simply disappear from public life altogether.
And so there are plenty of schemes out there to keep Trump sidelined, including a number of court battles and political actions. This includes the Nancy Pelosi-led select committee investigating the events of January 6th.
Now, one lawmaker believes that it’s possible that Trump himself could be called to testify in the case, which would certainly be considered an attempt at incriminating him.
House Majority Whip James Clyburn says “if it comes to that” the select committee investigating the Jan. 6 attack will ask former President Donald Trump to testify but would prefer not to call on a former president.
“They should go wherever the facts lead,” the South Carolina Democrat told CNN’s “State of the Union.” “I would not want to see a former president testify in such a situation as this, but if that’s what it takes in order to get to the bottom of this.”
The House voted 222-190 on Wednesday to establish the committee to probe the attack on the U.S. Capitol. Rep. Bennie Thompson, D-Miss., who serves as chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee, will chair the select committee, along with several other Democrats and lone Republican, Rep. Liz Cheney of Wyoming.
It is highly doubtful that Donald Trump would agree to such a thing, however, especially given the fact that the Senate has already acquitted him of “inciting” the insurrection during his second impeachment trial.
