When it comes to handling the coronavirus crisis, it is doubtful that you’d find two more disparate approaches than you would by comparing the Biden Administration and the State of Florida.
Biden, like many Democrats, has erred on the side of precaution, instead of prosperity. This means more lockdowns, more mask mandates, and even vaccine passports being discussed as possible ways of curbing the further spread of the emerging delta variant.
But in Florida, Governor Ron DeSantis has taken a freedom-forward approach that feels like something that emerged from a libertarian’s wet dream. No mask mandates or vaccine passports here, folks. Just pure, unbridled freedom.
Biden and his team have been so incensed by DeSantis and his antics that they’ve begun to make vague pseudo-threats in his direction, suggesting that he “get out of the way” of the federal COVID response.
DeSantis fired back mid-week.
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis blasted President Biden on Wednesday telling him to do his job and secure the southern border and not say “blip” about the coronavirus until he does.
“Why don’t you do your job?” the Florida Republican said during a press conference Wednesday. “Why don’t you get this border secure? And until you do that, I don’t wanna hear a blip about COVID from you, thank you.”
“This is a guy who ran for office saying he’s going to shut down the virus,” DeSantis added. “And what has he done? He’s imported more virus from around the world by having a wide open southern border.”
In the biz, that’s what we call a “mic drop”.
DeSantis has long been considered a likely GOP candidate for President in 2024, and there is no denying that he’s been inserting himself into the national scene more and more each week.
