Some of the items sold by Aldi are up to 50% cheaper compared to other major retailers. With such excellent prices, many people wonder how Aldi turns profits from the items they sell.
From the moment Aldi opened in the United States in the mid-1970s, the German-based grocery store caught the attention of shoppers who love a great bargain and are more than happy to save a ton of money on their grocery bills. Aldi’s mission is simple: to provide the lowest prices possible on goods without compromising on quality. Boasting more than 1,600 stores across 35 states and still expanding, it is similar to Trader Joe’s in its delivery: 90 percent of its stock consists of Aldi-exclusive brands, which is just one of the reasons why Aldi’s groceries are so cheap.
But I wasn’t sure it was okay to buy stuff like meat from Aldi, after all, where does Aldi beef come from?
So, I decided to do some research. This is what I discovered:
Most Aldi beef comes from local or regional farms located somewhat close to the store’s location. Thus, lower transportation costs help keep Aldi prices low. Additionally, most of their steaks are USDA Choice and Black Angus.
But there’s much more to know about Aldi beef than that.
Most people can’t believe how cheap Aldi beef is. That naturally makes them concerned about quality. So today, we’re diving deep into Aldi’s meat pricing, quality, and sourcing. Does any of it come from China?
No. Aldi meat does not come from China. Most of the beef sold in the US, by Aldi or otherwise, is produced and packaged in the US. 90% of the imported beef comes from Australia, New Zealand, Canada, or Mexico. The same goes for pork.
‘AWM’ gives us more details as to why ALDI’s meat is so cheap:
Aldi’s manages to keep their prices low by reducing overhead. They don’t overstock their stores and keep things small. They don’t hire too many employees and managers to keep their products as simple as they possibly can while still impressing customers with their offering. When it comes to meat, Aldi doesn’t carry the fanciest cuts of meats available to the American consumer. But they do manage to serve up quality products that can satisfy most shoppers.
Additionally, Aldi buys their meat from regional suppliers. That means that farms in the area of the store are the ones that provide the meat that goes onto the grocery store shelf. By shopping at Aldi, you’re supporting farmers in your area, especially when you’re purchasing meat products from the grocery store chain.
Just like any other grocery store, Aldi is known for having a deal every day. Wednesday and Thursday are the days to watch out for at this supermarket chain because those two days tend to offer their best deals on meat products. And it’s not just one type of product that you can expect – there will be savings available across the board.
While some shoppers may be curious about Aldi’s meat, there are plenty of other reasons to shop at the grocery store chain. For example, they also offer a variety of organic items like produce and dairy products that you can purchase for your family. And since this is one of the smaller chains in the United States, you can find locations wherever you happen to live.
So Aldi just sells brands you’ve never heard of before. But it doesn’t mean the quality is any less. It just means that they can sell you a quality product at a lower price. But, you will see some of the same meat products sold at Aldi at Walmart too.
