The public transportation system can be quite unfriendly towards those in wheelchairs, and it is up to the commuters to help those who require it. Unfortunately, not all commuters are kind and helpful.
But this bus driver in Paris goes beyond his job and is now being praised for ordering his passengers to leave the bus because they wouldn’t make room for a man in a wheelchair.
A person with a disability named François Le Berre shared his experience on his Facebook account. According to him, he was at a bus stop in the French capital’s 17th district when it all happened.
Le Berre said that he attempted to board the bus together with his companion, but nobody was willing to make room for him. However, everything changed when the driver noticed what was happening — he did not expect what occurred next.
“Yesterday, waiting for the bus in Paris, I laughed, because no one wanted to (make room). As nobody moved the driver said, ‘Terminus! Everybody [off]!’ After the driver came to me, he said, ‘you and your help you can ride and the others, you wait for the next [bus]!’” Le Berre stated.
Even though the other passengers were a bit annoyed with the sudden turn of events, the driver’s actions truly inspired Le Berre’s heart. His heart-warming Facebook post spread like wildfire and immediately went viral.
Several media outlets picked up on the news shortly after Francois’ post began to circulate. The bus driver ended up in choppy waters, as he’d violated the rules regarding bus driver practices whilst on duty. Fortunately, they decided not to punish him as they felt he’d done the morally right thing. Great thinking! He kept his job.
Sometimes those more self-centered of us need a reminder concerning how to treat others. In my opinion, the world needs more people like this bus driver – brave enough to stand up for someone in need.
Please share this article to inspire others to behave the same.
