While in the hallway of the US Capitol building NBC news reporter, Leigh Ann Caldwell was caught spinning fake news live on the air by Republican Congressman Mark Meadows.
Caldwell said that Republicans were “struggling” to defend President Donald Trump as Congressman Meadows walked by. Congressman Meadows at first declined the interview but heard the comments and quickly spun around.
Meadows did not agree with her comments and quickly corrected her. He said, “The Republicans are not struggling on anything” and commented that it was “actually getting easier to defend the president” as we hear more testimony.
Caldwell then used this opportunity to ask a few more questions.
Caldwell pressed on asking if it was “getting harder” to defend Trump when just one witness so far in the impeachment inquiry has said there was no quid pro quo in his phone call with Ukrainian President Zelensky. Congressman Meadows corrected her saying there was more than one witness to reject the quid pro quo narrative.
He says, “Actually as we hear more testimony – and the testimony that we’re hearing today – it’s actually getting easier to defend the president. From a standpoint, there is no linkage between aid.”
Meadows took to twitter to set the record straight.
He tweets, “Seeing many overblown (and outright false) reports about Ambassador Sondland’s testimony. Here’s what he actually said.
1. I did not (and still don’t) know why aid was held up
2. I “PRESUMED” it was because of corruption
3. I told Yermak my assumption”
