President Biden’s theme during his inaugural address on Wednesday was unity, but the mainstream media was too focused on their lingering hatred for Donald Trump to get the message.
The 46th President of the United States called for a “fresh start” and pleaded with all Americans to “listen to one another” by showing respect and insisted that “politics need not be a raging fire destroying everything in its path” and “‘every disagreement doesn’t have to be a cause for total war.”
But now that the race is over and Biden is president the media still can’t seem to move past their old ways.
Just this month, ABC News’ Rick Klein and MaryAlice said, “The fact is that getting rid of Trump is the easy part. Cleansing the movement he commands, or getting rid of what he represents to so many Americans, is going to be something else.”
MSNBC contributor Eugene Robinson claimed that “millions” of Trump supporters “need to be reprogrammed.”
Katie Couric echoed this statement on HBO’s “Real Time with Bill Mahar” saying, “The question is, how are we going to, really almost reprogram these people who have signed up for the cult of Trump?”Earlier this week MSNBC contributor Eddie Glaude accused Trump supporters of causing the devastation the coronavirus pandemic has caused our country.
“You know, we’re at a crossroads as a nation. It’s easy for us to place all of the blame on Donald Trump. He makes it easy for us, you know? He does. But there were 75, 74-plus million people who voted for him. Selfishness, greed, you know, they run rampant across the land, but you know, there’s something that President-elect Biden said: ‘To heal is to remember. To heal is to remember'” said Glaude.
“So not only do we have to remember our dead, we have to remember what brought us to this moment, what got us here,” he continued. “And it’s not just Donald Trump. It’s not just him. And that honestly will help us walk the path that we need to walk, I hope.”
Host Chris Hayes took it even further by saying that “the entire Republican Party” has “basically taken the side of the virus and ar actively trying to spread it” in retaliation for strictly enforced lockdown restrictions during the holidays.
There is no telling how long the media will continue with this toxic attitude now that Trump is out of office. Now that he is no longer president they might actually have to start doing their jobs and reporting on actual news.
