Usually, these kinds of vapid news stories are about some young celebrity in Hollywood who appeared in a local coffee shop wearing yoga pants and giant sunglasses. But rest assured that Washington has its fair share of pointless headlines meant to fill the empty space in between the real new stories.
Take, for example, this week’s hot story of Hunter Biden, son of President Joe Biden, who requested for the presidential motorcade to be halted just so he could grab a bagel on his way out of a church with his dad.
The mainstream media went wild over this story but Republicans could not find the amusement in it since they found major inconsistencies between Biden’s bagel run and the coverage of other, much more serious stories about Biden during the 2020 election cycle.
Matt Viser, the White House reporter for The Washington Post, tweeted that the motorcade was headed back from church at the time and was “diverted” so Hunter Biden “could make a food run at Call Your Mother, arguably the best bagel shop in DC.”
Viser, citing the pool reporter on hand, tweeted that Hunter Biden stood at the window of the store for “several minutes for the takeout order as his dad and daughters waited in the car.”
The GOP was quick to call the media out.
The House Judiciary GOP seized on the tweet and wrote, “This is the most coverage Hunter Biden has ever received by the mainstream media. What a joke.”
Several controversial stories about Hunter Biden surfaced during the 2020 election, including some that allegedly revealed an illicit connection with Biden and Burisma – a Ukrainian natural gas company.
