Samantha Vinograd, a once Obama national security official and current CNN national security analyst, stated that she believes there’s no way Trump is ready for this meeting with Kim Jong Un.
One would think that they’ve learned to not bet against the POTUS at this point but yet they persist.
“It does,” Vinograd stated when asked by host Erin Burnett if this moment felt different compared to past dealings with North Korea. “But that doesn’t mean we should rush into a nuclear summit.”
“We would spend months preparing for the most basic meetings President Obama used to have. Talk to your intelligence committee, talk to diplomats,” she continued.
“There is no way President Trump could be ready for May to have high stakes negotiation on denuclearization on the Korean Peninsula. It’s just impossible.”
“We’re looking at a scenario now where the president now perhaps because he wants a P.R. opportunity, perhaps because he’s desperate to do a deal is going to be rushing into a nuclear negotiation. Guess what, you can’t wing it. Kim Jong Un will be fully prepared. I think that he’s playing to the President’s ego and the President’s weaknesses by flattering him and by inviting him to Pyongyang.
“If President Trump does meet with Kim Jong Un, he’s going to be going in unprepared and he’s going to be giving to Kim what Kim wants, which is a positive photo op.”
Well… Trump seems prepared if you ask me. You don’t become as successful as he has without knowing how this sort of thing goes down.
He posted to Twitter: “Kim Jong Un talked about denuclearization with the South Korean Representatives, not just a freeze. Also, no missile testing by North Korea during this period of time. Great progress being made but sanctions will remain until an agreement is reached. Meeting being planned!”
