In the earliest moments of the COVID-19 crisis, when we were still referring to our situation as an outbreak and not yet a pandemic, there were some Americans who felt as though there was a dark cloud looming over the horizon.
If this gets out of control, they thought, there would be far too many opportunities for the powers that be to infringe upon our liberties. Lockdowns, mask mandates, and curfews ensued, along with protests that denounced the economically devastating national neutering.
And now that the viral situation has turned dire once again, there are a number of businesses attempting to require that their employees all be vaccinated against the virus…or else.
CNN is one of them.
CNN fired three employees Thursday for refusing vaccination in the largest reported purge at the company since 2017.
President of CNN Worldwide Jeff Zucker issued a statement in support of his decision to fire the employees, citing his “zero-tolerance policy on this.”
Zucker stated via a New York Times report:
“You need to be vaccinated to come to the office. And you need to be vaccinated to work in the field, with other employees, regardless of whether you enter the office or not. Period. We expect in the weeks ahead, showing vaccination may become a formal part of the WarnerMedia Passcard process.”
As it currently stands, the vaccination rate is stagnating in the United States, largely due to the effort that has been successful in reaching just about everyone who wants a vaccine.
Those who remain un-inoculated are largely doing so by choice, and have no plans to reconsider.
