Protesters clash at NYC library hosting Drag Story Hour for kids…

In the weeks leading up to Christmas, most of America was immersed in the holiday spirit.  However, in New York City, a group of people expressed their outrage over a drag queen reading a storybook to neurodiverse children at a Manhattan library.

The protestors, who were gathered outside the Andrew Heiskell Library in the Chelsea neighborhood, launched verbal assaults against the LGBTQ community during the event on a Saturday – merely a week after an arrest took place for assaulting a New York Police Department officer at a similar gathering.

New York City Council Member Erik Bottcher was present at the drag queen event, lending his support. He managed to record the protestors, who were verbally attacking the children and their parents as they arrived for the storybook reading. Bottcher later took to Twitter, stating, “Today, I witnessed pure hatred and bigotry outside Drag Queen Story Hour at a public library in Chelsea. Inside, I witnessed a loving and peaceful reading of children’s books to kids.”

Proponents of these drag queen storytime events argue that they promote inclusivity and diversity. They believe that exposing children to the LGBTQ community early on helps them grow into more supportive and understanding individuals. Critics, on the other hand, accuse the organizers of “grooming” children to engage in LGBTQ activities.

The protestors assembled outside the Andrew Heiskell Library in Manhattan to demonstrate against the event, which the New York Public Library described as “story time with local drag performers adapted to be more accessible to kids with autism and other disabilities.” The hateful words and insults hurled at the children and their parents were in stark contrast to the atmosphere inside the library, where drag queens were reading stories about acceptance and inclusivity to neurodiverse kids.

Despite the hostility outside, supporters of these events remain steadfast in their mission to spread love and understanding through storybook readings. It is evident that opposition to such efforts at inclusivity still exists, but advocates will continue hosting these events across America as a symbol of solidarity with those whose voices have been silenced for too long.

The battle for understanding and tolerance is uphill, but it is a fight worth undertaking, as it contributes to creating a more empathetic and inclusive society. Drag Queen Story Hour events are not merely about offering an entertaining storytime experience for children; they aim to open young minds to accepting people from all walks of life – regardless of their race, gender identity, or sexual orientation. It is this message of acceptance and inclusion that must be embraced to progress as a society.

Together, we must support inclusivity, acceptance, and understanding, while vehemently rejecting hatred and bigotry in all its forms.
