One may say that Westland, Michigan is affluent with crimes.

Westland’s citizens are no strangers to violence, as the city has the second-highest rate of violent crime in the country behind St. Louis (2,057 per 100,000 population). Now, a disturbing incident happens when a man in Westland was recently arrested under suspicion of assault on an elderly nursing home patient.

The incident was discovered after a man who went by the name Jadon Hayden on social media released a video of himself brutally assaulting an elderly man in a nursing home on his now-deleted YouTube channel.

The disturbing video was then released by The Police Department and detailed the attack on the elderly at Detroit’s Westwood Nursing Center on the 16850 block of Schaefer on the city’s northwest side. The soldier in question was eventually identified as Norman Bledsoe a veteran.

However, images from the viral video of Hayden beating up the elderly man in a nursing home are difficult to forget.

In the video, Hayden severely attacked the defenseless man by repeatedly punching him in the head. Hayden can be seen saying “See this b–ch -ss n—-r here?” while pointing at the older man’s bloodied face to the camera, and cursing at him. “Get the f–k off my bed, n—-r,” Hayden yelled at the elderly before wiping his blood off with a white sheet, before the video ended, Hayden can also be heard asking, F–k wrong with you?”

It was reported that Hayden was part of a Michigan health officials’ program that sent some COVID-positive patients to quarantine in nearby nursing homes, as Hayden had been transported to the nursing home because he had tested positive for COVID-19.

The graphic description that accompanied the video indicated the reason why the victim was being beaten. Police claim that when the care home was questioned about this activity after the video was posted on May 15, 2020, “the staff was unaware of the assault until they saw the video,”

“The alleged actions of this defendant are truly and uniquely disturbing. We must be able to trust our loved ones in specialty care facilities. I truly hope that the facts of this care are one of a kind,” prosecutor Kym Worthy said.

Following the incident, the victim, Bledsoe sustained four broken fingers, shattered ribs, and a broken jaw and had been depressed and was not eating since the beating. Two months after the horrific attack, the Army veteran died

As a result, Hayden has been charged with two counts of Assault with Intent to Do Great Bodily Harm, Larceny in a Building, and two counts of Financial Transaction Device, Steal/Retain Without Consent.

However, this is not the first time Hayden has posted a video of himself abusing elderly men and women. Numerous films of Hayden abusing senior citizens may be seen on his YouTube channel, frequently with a description as revolting as the video. In some of the films, victims can be seen still being treated in the hospital where Hayden uploads the footage, their hands raised to try to shield their faces. On almost every victim’s wrist, there is a hospital bracelet.

Hayden’s father said his son has had several health issues, including autism and suffers from schizophrenia, and has a history of aggressive conduct.

Jadon Hayden’s father said that if his son had been found guilty and imprisoned, it would have just made his mental health problems worse, “He shouldn’t be in prison.”

The videos are among other more casual videos of Hayden himself rating different boxers’ performances, or himself boxing at his gym. Aside from the assault videos that he has uploaded, the YouTube channel itself is quite casual and non-threatening. His Facebook and Twitter accounts have both been suspended as well, where he talked about beating and raping elderly people, again, among other more casual posts involving his private life.

Meanwhile, the Westwood Nursing Home released a statement describing the attacker as a short-term patient admitted for rehab and recovery.

“Like other viewers, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services was deeply disturbed by a video that was widely shared on social media showing a man beating an elderly man who was in his bed at a nursing facility,” a statement from the department reads.

“The department would like to correct inaccurate information that was shared on social media. The man who is accused in the assault is not an MDHHS employee, and the attack did not occur at a department facility. MDHHS staff are dedicated to providing the best possible care for the patients in our facilities.”

However, the nursing facility and the Michigan health authorities who implemented the policies that made this possible ought to have known better and Bledsoe’s family has filed a lawsuit against the nursing home.
