The conspiracy-heavy corners of the internet were ablaze on Wednesday afternoon as news began to spread of John McAfee’s death.
McAfee, best known for his revolutionary anti-virus computer software, had grown both wealthy and eccentric in recent years…as well as a little too bold in terms of skirting the law.
His behavior caught up with him in the last several months, and McAfee had been in a Spanish person cell for months awaiting possible extradition to the United States. During that time, he posted several times to Twitter, (via someone on the outside), that he was in no way considering suicide, and that any attempt to claim that has committed suicide shall be considered false upon its very utterance.
Welp. Guess what? John McAfee died of an “apparent suicide” in that Spanish prison cell on Wednesday.
An Instagram account belonging to cybersecurity entrepreneur John McAfee posted a plain image of the letter “Q”, an apparent reference to the “QAnon” conspiracy theory, on Wednesday minutes after it was reported by multiple news organizations that Mr McAfee had been found dead by apparent suicide in his Spanish prison cell.
The post, which depicts a black, capital-letter “Q” on a white background, went up less than a half-hour after English-language news services began reporting Mr McAfee’s death.
Mr. McAfee’s death came after he received the news on Wednesday that his extradition to the US had been granted, where he was set to face charges of tax evasion. Catalan authorities said that his death appeared to be a suicide.
But McAfee’s own very distinct words on the subject seem to cast doubt on the official story.
The posts in question were soon flying around the internet, with a great many doubting minds in tow.

There is little doubt that we will be hearing more about all of this in the days to come.
