As political violence rose here in the United States, certain groups began to form and fight against each other. There it was – the freest nation in the world – tearing itself apart.
Groups from both sides of the political spectrum worked to infiltrate protests and gatherings, bringing their own brand of extremist violence to the streets of this nation.
Of these groups, none was as prolific as the ‘Proud Boys’. The group, Helms by Enrique Tarrio, was present at just about every major protest over the course of the last two or three years and was often found to be in the center of some dangerous and violent situations.
Their behavior has been so despicable that Canada is now designating Proud Boys as a terrorist organization.
Canada has brandedthe Proud Boys a terrorist entity, saying its members “played a pivotal role” in the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol that left five people dead.
The announcement Wednesday by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s government puts the far-right group in the same category as the Islamic State, al Qaeda, al Shabaab, Boko Haram and the Taliban.
Public Safety Minister Bill Blair added the Proud Boys, which his department labeled a “neo-fascist organization that engages in political violence,” and 12 other groups to the terrorist list.
“No matter the ideological motivation of violent extremist groups, they are all hateful, intolerant and, as we have seen, they can be dangerous,” Blair said. “The threat of ideologically motivated extremism has been identified as the most significant threat to domestic security in Canada.”
The group received another hard blow after the aforementioned Tarrio was outed as a former FBI informant just days ago.
